Must visit restaurants in Rome. Quite a challenge given that the city is full of delicious places. Rome is the city known for its rich history, home to many famous landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, and the Trevi Fountain. As the capital of Italy, Rome’s streets are filled with delightful restaurants that offer traditional Roman dishes and Italian cuisine in general.
Rome is home to many traditional trattorias and osterias, informal family-run establishments serving traditional Roman dishes. In recent years, Rome has also seen an influx of modern and trendy restaurants that offer a more contemporary approach to Italian cuisine.
During our weekend getaway, we’ve already tried a few, from osterias to more diverse kitchens. I can tell you, you want to experience this too.
1. Pianostrada
A stone’s throw from Ponte Sisto, in the center of Rome, you’ll find the beautiful restaurant Pianostrada. As you walk in, all your expectations are surpassed. It features a lovely interior with warm, soft lighting that immediately creates an intimate atmosphere. They welcome you with open arms. Expect waiters carrying beautiful plates around you, an open kitchen where chefs are hard at work, and a charming (heated) inner courtyard a bit further. This place, thanks to the lamps, table details, antique chairs, and objects, gives a homely feeling. Moreover, the menu offers a variety of delicious options. The staff is very friendly and enthusiastically explains what’s on the Italian menu. Among the locals, you can enjoy all the deliciousness.
2. Da Enzo al 29
Close to the charming Trastevere district, in our opinion, the most delightful/coziest district in Rome, you’ll find the traditional restaurant Da Enzo. It’s a place where you might have to wait in line. Therefore, don’t dismiss this place as it’s more than worth the wait. Expect pasta as pasta should be. A pasta like you’ve never had before. And all for a very reasonable price. The owner engages in friendly conversation with you, if it’s not too busy, and lovingly explains his dishes. Fancy an extra glass of wine? No problem. They emphasizes the importance of ‘enjoying’.
3. Osteria La Querci
Hospitality tops the detail list at Osteria La Quercia. A restaurant that aims to provide you with an unforgettable experience with a smile and excellent service. This place is located on a quiet square near Campo di Fiori. It’s not a tourist trap or an overhyped restaurant; it’s simple, high-quality food in a peaceful neighborhood. The restaurant is also known for its extensive selection of wines, and they happily explain which wine pairs best with your traditionally chosen dish. From fried zucchini flowers to a unique spaghetti carbonara, it’s all there and definitely worth trying.
