October in Costa Brava is the best month to visit

9 October 2022

Instead of planning your trip during the summer holidays, we suggest you consider late summer. The end of September and beginning of October is a great time to visit the charming Costa Brava, as it’s less hot. Prices drop, the crowds have gone and the weather and sea are still warm enough to enjoy the last of the summer and early autumn sun.

For the rest of the year, the locals outnumber the tourists because they’ve all come back from their own holidays, so you can enjoy a little more of that Catalan relaxation you came for in the first place. While you dream about booking, here are the places to visit in October on the Costa Brava.

Wine tasting at Empordàlia in Empordà

Once the crowds have gone and the days are less unbearably hot, the Costa Brava begins to turn green again from the early autumn rains. The grape harvest takes place and the olive pickers get ready. Since it’s harvest time, the grapes are at their peak. How lucky we are!

Apart from buying wine to enjoy at home, a wine tasting is the perfect way to experience the local area. Wine brings people together, teaches and creates memories. A wine tasting at Empordàlia is not only highly educational, but also gives you the chance to taste the products of the region.

Empordàlia offers a wine tasting that can be paired with a gourmet lunch, a walk through the vineyards, and a visit to the vineyards on an electric bike. A perfect activity for October in Costa Brava. The visit is in groups and conducted in Catalan. If you prefer another language, we recommend letting them know in advance!

Wading at Platja Fonda

Platja Fonda is a beautiful little beach near Begur. Why is this beach so perfect in October? Well, when it’s 22 to 24 degrees, you’re sheltered and it can quickly feel like a summer day. So it’s not just wading at your own risk – you can jump right in!

This cove is truly unique, both in its location and the colour of the water. You’ll have to go down a long flight of steps to discover this hidden spot. You’ll soon realise that this is one of the most peaceful coves on the Begur coast.

Lunch at Hotel Palau Lo Mirador

From swimming in empty coves to exploring local markets, visiting artisan workshops and taking easy walks, October is a wonderful time to enjoy the simple charm of the Costa Brava and the authentic Catalan lifestyle.

For lunch, head to the Hotel Palau Lo Mirador in Torroella de Montgrí. This hidden gem is perfect for a sunny October day. Be surprised by the beautiful setting and the restaurant’s garden. Enjoy a delicious three-course meal for just €25, wine included.

Originally a hotel in a stunning old historic building, it’s truly an unexpected treasure. A lovely spot in a quiet town, but definitely worth a visit. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Photography event in Cadaqués

Every year a photography event is held in the beautiful white village of Cadaqués. For those unfamiliar with Cadaqués, it’s a stunning fishing village known for its medieval remains of the old town combined with striking modernist features. This is partly due to the arrival of Salvador Dalí, who named it his favourite village. It’s no surprise that in the second half of the 20th century, Cadaqués became a centre for various artists, actors and bohemians. This fishing village is rich in memories that are celebrated with great enthusiasm.

For ten days, Cadaqués becomes an open space for photographers from all over the world. The walls of the village will be the backdrop for their art. All of Cadaqués’ iconic and recognisable places become the natural setting for this event. The cafés, restaurants and cultural centres come together to bring this event to life.

Whether you know your way around or not, it’s no problem. As long as you’re interested, you’re welcome to enjoy the setting and the event. It’s an intimate and festive occasion that puts the spotlight on the real photographers. It’s all about discovery, sharing, networking and having fun.
