7 hidden spots in Costa Brava

9 March 2023

Finding hidden spots in Costa Brava is what we love to do every day. Costa Brava has many beautiful beaches, delicious restaurants, and, of course, charming villages. There are still plenty of undiscovered places that are absolutely worth exploring. Here are some of my favorite suggestions for lesser-known places in Costa Brava that are worth a visit:

1. Cala Montgó

This secluded beach near L’Escala is known for its clear waters, rocky cliffs, and is a popular spot for snorkeling and diving. It’s also a great place for kids to swim as it starts shallow. While particularly known among L’Escala visitors, these hidden spots in Costa Brava should definitely be on the list.

2. Cala d’En Malarat

This beautiful bay is located near Begur, next to Fornells, and is a secluded place where, through a walkable route, you’ll encounter different types of beaches with crystal-clear water. This spot is not very well-known, making it one of the hidden spots in Costa Brava

3. Cap de Creus Natural Park

This nature park is located on the northeast coast of the Costa Brava and features rugged cliffs, coves, and picturesque hiking trails. At the top sits a charming restaurant, Restaurant Cap de Creus, where you can sit on the terrace with a stunning view

4. Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery

This medieval monastery is situated on a hilltop near the town of Figueres and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. It is known for its well-preserved architecture and tranquil atmosphere.

5. Cadaqués

This charming village is located on the coast near the French border and is known for its narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and vibrant art scene. Salvador Dalí, the famous surrealist painter, was a frequent visitor to the village.

6. Medes Islands

The Medes Islands (Illes Medes in Catalan) are a group of small islands off the coast of L’Estartit on the Costa Brava, a major tourist attraction due to the rich marine life and declared a protected natural park. The Medes Islands are a popular destination for divers from around the world due to their spectacular underwater landscape and the diversity of marine life.

Here, you can dive to see sea breams, barracudas, sea anemones, and octopuses. If you prefer not to dive, you can take a boat trip around the islands to admire the beautiful cliffs and coves and enjoy the views of the Mediterranean Sea. Several companies also offer glass-bottom boat tours, allowing you to see the underwater world without getting wet

7. Sa Caleta

A beautiful cove in Sant Feliu de Guixols on the Costa Brava. The beach is small with fine sand and clear water, surrounded by rocky cliffs and pine forests. A peaceful and secluded spot, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of the surroundings. Near Sa Caleta, you will also find the botanical gardens of Cap Roig, home to over 1000 different plant species and offering stunning views of the bay of Calella de Palafrugell. An ideal place for walking and enjoying the natural beauty of the Costa Brava
